IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, also called Photrejuvination, and refers to a family of treatments used to treat:

  • Age Spots
  • Sun Damage
    (Brown spots or age spots)
  • Vascular or red areas (Telangectasias, Poikiloderma, erythema, Rosacea)
  • Bacteria causing blemishes/redness (Acne, Rosacea)

Photorejuvination

As we age, our skin reflects the damage from the sun, the elements and the wear-and-tear of daily life. In response, we often seek aesthetic procedures to restore a fresh and youthful appearance. Photorejuvenation - one of the most popular cosmetic procedures today, provides the ideal answer. Removing age spots (sun-induced freckles), most brown pigmentation and redness due to broken capillaries, these treatments help "turn back the clock". And with no downtime, AFT technology is ideally suited for those with busy lifestyles.

Pigmentation

Cosmetic flaws may be caused by heredity, medication, pregnancy or environmental factors. Most vascular and pigmented lesions are ideal candidates for these non-invasive pulsed light treatments. The widest range of vascular lesions, like port wine stains, telangiecstasias, hemangiomas, erythema and poikiloderma of Civette can be safely and effectively treated with AFT pulsed light. In addition, pigmented lesions like lentigos, seborrheic keratoses, may show significant improvement.

Acne and Rosacea

Dr. Tomasello is able to effectively treat acne on the face ,neck and back using IPL technology. The laser targets a component (porphyrins) of the acne causing bacteria (propionibacterium acnes). By ridding these areas of this bacterium, Dr. Tomasello is able to help patients skin become clearer and clearer following each treatment. In addition to treating acne, Dr. Tomasello can also treat the scarring caused by acne using a minimally surgical technique whereby the scars are filled in, followed by a resurfacing of the area - PIXEL (info or link to info)

Similar to how the bacteria porphyrins are targeted in  the treatment of Acne , IPL treatments can be use to effectively reduce the presence of rosacea, another skin inflammation caused by a bacteria.
